Welcome

Welcome to Rochester Cathedral, a place of human flourishing and divine encounter that spans over 1400 years.  Here you will find history in abundance, but much more than this - a living faith that continues to shape and change the lives of ordinary people today.

This cathedral is first and foremost a community, a spiritual home to around 400 of us who find its pattern of prayer and worship an inspiration for our lives.  None of us are Holy Joes, just ordinary people who want to make a difference in the world around us and recognise our need of God to help us do this.

In an age when people are suspicious of religion, Rochester Cathedral is committed to giving you space to explore the spiritual dimension of  your life.  You and God may be a lot closer than you had imagined.  Within this sacred space you may find a place of enchantment and wonder that puts you unexpectedly in touch with God.

As you explore this website I hope it encourages you to pay us a visit.  The Medway area is one of the South East's great undiscovered secrets, a millennium of history and heritage wrapped around a stunning river setting.  At the heart of this secret gem is the cathedral, which draws thousands of people each year to enjoy its special atmosphere.

I hope you might convert your virtual visit into a real one.  Until then, this message comes wishing you all of God's very best in your life.

The Rev'd Dr Philip Hesketh, Acting Dean
